The weather was perfect on Sunday 6th December for Scawby's annual Carols and Christmas Tree lights switch-on. It was a very mild and still evening and after mulled wine and mince pies at the Village Hall around 100 people of all ages gathered on the Village Green. The children came directly from the church where they had been busy making lanterns and trying to discover the Christmas word that was hidden in the wreaths made by local groups. The event was much improved this year by the addition of the Humberside Police Band and we sang a selection of carols finishing with "We wish you a Merry Christmas"
The Christmas Dance on 12th December was a fun night with entertainment from the local Indie Band "Blindside" and the lead singer Trudy soon formed a good rapport with the audience. "Amp and Decks" supplied the disco music and lights and as usual Kris was soon getting us all up and dancing with some good Christmas music and plenty of sixties and seventies classics.
Tickets got off to a slow start with a lot of people leaving it until the last minute to purchase them. This caused a few sleepless nights for Scawby Events Team as we like everything we organise to be well supported by local people. We sold 64 tickets which is enough for a good atmosphere but less than we would normally sell. We had a lot of good feedback from the revellers, everyone brought their own drinks and snacks and a pie and pea supper was included in the ticket price of £12.50. Does Scawby want a Christmas or New Year Party organising or not?
