Scawby Gala Weekend 2021
It wasn’t the usual Gala Weekend due to Covid restrictions but what we did have was very well supported by the whole village. The weather was warm on Friday and Saturday, (although a bit windy for scarecrows). Sunday was hot.
We had 40 scarecrows and the theme was HEROES, there were some fantastic creations this year and the competition for best scarecrow was very close. There were so many that deserved a prize but as it’s a competition a winner had to be chosen:
The winning entry was TRAWLERMEN made by Susan Outram.
Second was the FARMER made by Rosie Brister
Third was DAVID ATTENBOROUGH made Clare Allison, Katie & Finley.
We also had some beautifully decorated wheelbarrows, the winning one was made by the Jensen family. Thank you everyone who made a scarecrow or decorated a wheelbarrow
We had two treasure hunts, one especially for the children and they continued until Sunday afternoon so everyone had plenty of time to solve all the clues. Stuart Rabin-Smith won the main treasure hunt with 38/38 and Freya Helme won the children's with 24/24
Earth Folk, Polly Brown and Keith Duke, played beautiful music in the churchyard on Saturday.
We YARN BOMBED Scawby!! Something new for us and it was very popular with visitors. We would like to thank St Hybald’s Church for joining in and yarn bombing the churchyard and Scawby WI for joining in and yarn bombing the bus shelters. Everything looked spectacular. Those of us who crocheted or knitted really enjoyed it and we think this is going to become a regular feature of gala weekend. We have decided to leave the yarn bombing out for a few weeks.
Scawby Events Team would like to thank everyone who helped make Scawby Gala Weekend another success. Thank you also to those who have given us good feedback and thank you to everyone who came along and joined in; we could not do it without you.
