Scawby Events Team
The Christmas tree lights have had to be switched on this year without everyone gathering around to sing carols. In normal times this is such a well-supported and enjoyable event with mulled wine and mince pies beforehand, children making lanterns and the Christmas Wreaths display in St Hybalds Church.
Back in March we only just managed to have our popular Fish and Chip Quiz Night before Lockdown began. We cancelled the Easter Egg Hunt and gave all the chocolate eggs to the school to distribute for us. Our planned celebration of the 75th Anniversary of VE Day on 8th May was hastily changed from a picnic and games for all at Scawby Playing Field to everyone having a picnic in their own front garden. This was actually very successful partly due to lovely weather; photos are on the website. Scawby Pumpkin Trail took place during half-term, 24 -31 October, for safety’s sake we purchased some Halloween treats from the Co-op and let the school distribute them. There were plenty of pumpkins and other scary things to find; photos are on the website.
We missed the Scawby Bonfire and Fireworks at the Sutton Arms, this was very sad as it’s always a fantastic night supported by hundreds of people. We have cancelled the NYE party.
We hope next year will be a big improvement on this year in every way. We are planning to have a simplified Scawby Gala Weekend, 11th to 13th June 2021 with a Scarecrow Trail and a Treasure Hunt. We are also looking into an Outdoor Cinema.
Scawby Events Team would like to thank everyone for continuing to support us and we wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a peaceful and healthy New Year.
Scawby Events Team was formed in August 2012 to organise a selection of events appropriate to Scawby village parishioners. To encourage the goodwill and involvement of the wider community, to foster community spirit and encourage civic pride.

The events organised for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012 had been so well received that we decided to make arrangements for a Gala Weekend in June 2013. This was so well supported that it has now become an annual event in Scawby on the second weekend in June
The Gala Weekend is not a fund-raising or charity event it is for the whole community to get together and have an enjoyable time with friends and neighbours. We try to involve as many local people and businesses as possible and to cater for all ages and tastes.
