Jubilee Sunday. The Party in the Park was moved from a very wet playing field to the village hall and in no time at all the hall was decorated with bunting and balloons. Jo's pop-up gazebo was erected at the rear door and this made a superb dry area for the barbeque, (and the hog roast on Monday night). Despite the rain Neil was delighted to welcome more than 50 people who turned up for the Fun Run. Nobody seemed to mind getting soaked and they were all soon back at the village hall for a well deserved hot-dog or beefburger and a cup of tea. the bouncy castle had to be deflated as it was too wet to use safely but the games continued inside. Tom Nelthorpe presented Jubilee mugs to the children and he also presented the medals to the winners of the Fun Run. Marcus Bridges was the adult winner, Ryan Johnson was the fastest under 16years and the fancy dress prize was won by sisters Lucy & Sarah Talkington.

Jubilee Monday. The hall was packed again on Monday afternoon for the cream tea, there were times when it was standing room only and we wondered if we would run out of Cornish clotted cream. Polly Brown played the fiddle to entertain us and the local art group continued the Diamond Jubilee theme with a display of their paintings.

The Jubilee cakes were much admired and the judge Shirley Lingard gave the first prize to Michelle Lewin and the junior first prize went to Lottie and Sophie Almey. The Jubilee poems were displayed for everyone to read and were judged by Carole Roberts who awarded the adult first prize to Karen Robinson and the junior first prize to Amy Greaves. Trevor read out both poems to a richly deserved round of applause.

Monday evening was when the committee felt they could at last relax and let their hair down, a band and a disco to entertain us, a hog roast and our own drinks to sustain us and our friends and neighbours to help us celebrate. There was plenty of dancing, singing and flag waving and we toasted the Queen with Champagne. No one wanted to leave and many people asked if we could do it every year...
